Weekend Update

This weekend was pretty awesome, and I really don't want it to end.
One of my goals for the weekend was to take down the Christmas decorations. However, Chris said that we need to keep them up while the Redskins are still winning, because he's superstitious like that.
Since they lost last night, it's about time to take them down this week!

We ran errands and got a lot done, and even managed to survive Ikea on a Saturday! I got some stuff for my new office and a couple things for the apartment. No obnoxious furniture to put together {I'm pretty sure Chris was having terrible flashbacks as we were walking through that part of the store}. I also realized how long my hair is getting again. Why does it grow so fast?

On Saturday morning, as we're on our way into Ikea, I got a call from my best friend Liz. We've been friends since Kindergarten and  she lives in the Florida Keys. Here was our conversation:

Me: "Hello!"
Liz: "Hey!"
Me: "ARE YOU ENGAGED!?!?"
Liz: "HOW DID YOU KNOW?!?!"
...What can I say, a best friend just KNOWS! Her now-fiance, Ryan, proposed the night before in an adorable way, even though I didn't get many of the details in our 3 minute conversation/freak-out. I am so happy for her that I feel like I could burst. Knowing that she is happy and will be "taken care of" forever is such a good feeling to have as a friend! I knew this day would come soon and am just so, so excited for her. So, Liz, if you are reading (which you probably aren't perusing my blog as you have more important things to worry about!) ...CONGRATULATIONS!!! I can't wait to celebrate with you in person, hopefully soon! Oh, I also thanked her for making me cry as I was about to go into Ikea. That's what friends are for.

Poor Chris...not only did he endure an Ikea trip, he endured me talking/happily freaking out about Liz's engagement the whole time. Points for him. :)

This aloe plant was one of my favorite Ikea purchases!

The rest of the weekend was just spent relaxing and getting things done. I made orange sorbet, we cooked dinners, and just had a nice weekend.
Orange sorbet. Recipe coming soon!
I never buy store-bought cupcakes, but these Redskins themed ones from Wegman's were too cute.
I also learned how to remove gel nail polish at home. This tutorial was a lifesaver and completely saved my nails (minus the polish I pulled off my pinky and damaged that nail...) I normally avoid getting gel (or getting my nails done at all) but it was so nice to have them done for the holidays so I didn't have to think about them.

I hope you had a great weekend and an easy Monday!
Linking up with Sami and Leeann for Weekend Update :)

  3. I did gel once, it was too hard on my nails, which are very strong, so that's saying a lot!

    Congrats to your BFF!

I keep wanting to get an aloe plant. They seem easy to take care of, and they're useful too!

  6. Soooo.....I'd love to say that I'm sorry your Redskins lost...but I just can't. :) I do live in Seahawk country. Haha. But, I am sorry for you and Chris that their season is over. Boo.
I love the aloe plant! This spring, my mom and I are going to try and cut some off of hers so I can have my own. Should be fun....lol

  7. I have never been to Ikea!! :( Jeff's sister and I are planning a trip though...so I can copy you and get an aloe plant too! Oh my gosh, the first thing I thought when I saw the selfie was "wow her hair is LONG!". I wish mine would get there again...I'm tired of this awkward shoulder length hair.
