I was in 5th grade. My parents decided we could start looking for our first family dog. We hadn't had dogs before...only cats. We were so excited, so my family along with my bff Liz headed off to PetsMart on one of those adoption fair days.
We arrived at PetsMart, there were several dogs and many cats just waiting to find their forever homes. Liz and I stood outside one of the pens which housed a couple of the dogs.
Then he picked us.
They called him "Chip". He jumped up on me (my, what great manners he had). Another dog had caught my parents' eye, but "Chip" caught mine. He had to be part of our family....and so he was.
Our family was about to take our first trip to Disney World so we had to wait 10 days to bring our new family member home. In the spirit of Disney, we decided to name him "Magic".
Magic joined our family and fit right in. He was skiddish and afraid... we figured he was abused by his previous family. He picked us as his forever family and lived a happy life. He loved chasing squirrels, jumping on people, and cuddling. He was terrified of thunderstorms. He wasn't the smartest puppy but he loved us and we loved him.
Magic passed away in 2010 and we miss him so much. I'll always remember the day he picked us as one of my fondest childhood memories.
Linking up with day 18 of the challenge.

What a cutie! My previous dog, Ronnie, was my first dog since I was about 3 years old. He was not at all the kind of dog I was looking for, but when I saw his face through the chain link kennel door at the shelter, I knew he had to come home with me. He's been gone since last August, and I still miss him every day, faults and all. Before he passed, I adopted another rescue dog, a female German Shepherd named Cassie. I cannot imagine life without my 'fur baby(ies)'!!

He's adorable and that's such a sweet story. I love dogs and I only wish they lived longer. They're incredible, loving animals that deserve long and happy lives. I'm glad Magic got to live a good one. :)
ReplyDeleteAwww! That is such a great name. I'm so sorry you lost him but glad that you had that time together. I haven't suffered the loss of a pet yet and I'm afraid I'll go postal.
